PETALING JAYA: Malaysians have paid tribute to billionaire Robert Kuok for playing an important role in the country’s economic growth and being a patriotic citizen. Former Sungai Benut MP Tawfik Ismail said Kuok’s business ventures helped create jobs for Malaysians and promote growth in local industries. Tawfik, who calls Kuok “Uncle Robert”, said the 94-year-old tycoon had always been proud to carry the Malaysian name. ACCCIM honorary president Tan Sri Lee Shin Cheng said Kuok had expressed concerns for national development and support for the Malaysian government during meetings between Kuok and chamber leaders. Tan, the INTI Education Holdings founder, said Malaysians should put aside racial prejudice and learn from Kuok through his memoir.
