PETALING JAYA: A Malaysian citizen has been seriously injured in the Indonesian tsunami. According to the Indonesian Search and Rescue Agency (Basarnas), Khairul Umam Masduki sustained injuries on his leg that made him unable to walk in the first moments of the tsunami. The tsunami has killed at least 429 people, and aid agencies warn that more victims are expected to be uncovered as the search expands. More than 1,400 people were injured, and thousands of residents had to move to higher ground, with a high-tide warning extended to Wednesday (Dec 26). Saturday (Dec 22) night’s tsunami was triggered by an underground landslide caused by the erupting Anak Krakatau volcano.
