THE 10th World Bamboo Day will be celebrated virtually in Malaysia in the wake of the Covid-19 pandemic. In conjunction with Malaysia Day on Sept 16, the planting of 100 bamboo plants will take place simultaneously nationwide. The virtual launch of World Bamboo Day Malaysia (WBDM) 2021 will be held on Sept 20, together with the unveiling of the National Bamboo Industry Development Action Plan 2021-2030 and Malaysia Bamboo Industry Sustainability Forum 2021. Two webinar series on Sept 28 and 29 — on the use of bamboo in the construction industry and bamboo plantations — will be held at the closing of the WBDM 2021 celebrations. Each of the World Bamboo Day activities planned for this year is aimed at bringing awareness to the public on the bamboo’s potential to boost the country’s economic growth and as an eco-friendly material.
