PUTRAJAYA: Malaysia is calling upon 18 European ambassadors lead by the European Union (EU) ambassador Maria Castillo Fernandez to accredit and accept the Malaysian Sustainable Palm Oil (MSPO) certification. “In today’s meeting, we urged the European ambassadors to correct the misperceptions about the palm oil industry which is hurting trade. The palm oil industry is important to both economies of Malaysia and Indonesia because some five million oil palm planters’ livelihoods are at stake. Last year, Malaysia exported some RM10 billion worth of palm oil to the EU, its biggest market. In the first eight months of this year, Mah noted palm oil shipments from Malaysia to the EU amounted to RM7.5 billion.
