Malala Yousafzai back in her beloved Swat Valley for the first time since she was shot by the Taliban in 2012 ABDUL MAJEED/AFP/GETTY IMAGESFlanked by her parents the Nobel peace laureate Malala Yousafzai made an emotional return to her Pakistani home town for the first time since she was shot in the head by a Taliban gunman in 2012. The high-security trip to Mingora in the Swat Valley was a closely guarded secret. Ms Yousafzai and her family arrived by helicopter, escorted by troops. “So much joy seeing my family home, visiting friends and putting my feet on this soil again,” she wrote on Twitter. The Taliban have been conquered in the area since Ms Yousafzai was shot but reactions to her return in what remains a conservative region have been mixed.
