more-inThe Indian Medical Association (IMA) has called for a stringent central law to curb the increasing incidence of violence against doctors. Any act of violence against doctors should be made a punishable, non-bailable offence with imprisonment of up to 14 years,” Dr. K. K. Aggarwal, president of the IMA. The IMA estimates that over 75% of doctors in India have faced some form of violence during their career. There is also a need to change the government policy of allowing four minutes per patient,” noted the IMA. The main reason reported behind such violence is “unnecessary investigations” or delay in attending to a patient.
