VIJAYAWADA: With Amaravati Metro Rail Corporation (AMRC), the special purpose vehicle (SPV) floated for execution of Vijayawada metro project, deciding to put Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) at bay, Make in India coaches are set to chug the Vijayawada metro corridors.The earlier plan was to get the rakes from Japan as JICA had insisted on purchasing them there. "When JICA insisted that we bought rakes from them, we would be compelled to procure them even if the Japanese agency quoted high prices. Now, we have an option to choose whichever works for us," the official explained.With the establishment of the three manufacturing units in India, the procurement time has significantly come down. Earlier, the official said, it would take 33 months for manufacture of the coaches and delivery . It is exploring options to get fund from Agence Francaise de Developpement, KfW Development Bank from Germany and European Investment Bank (EIB).
