MANILA, Philippines — The House of Representatives’ Makabayan bloc is calling for an investigation into the death of activist leader Zara Alvarez, saying that her killing is “a threat to all human-rights workers.”House Resolution No. 1145 filed on August 18, a copy of which was sent to the media on Wednesday, directs the committee on human rights to conduct the said investigation, in aid of legislation. The Makabayan bloc said Alvarez is the 13th worker of human-rights group Karapatan slain under the Duterte administration. ADVERTISEMENTThe International Coalition for Human Rights in the Philippines has also earlier denounced the killing of Alvarez.
