Majority foresee no change after censure debate: Poll

Majority foresee no change after censure debate: PollA majority of people believe there will be no change in the political situation and the government will remain in power after the no-confidence debate, according to the result of an opinion survey by Suan Dusit Rajabhat University, or Suan Dusit Poll. The poll was conducted on Feb 5-8 on 1,088 people throughout the country to compile their opinions on the censure debate against six cabinet ministers, including Prime Minister Prayut Chan-o-cha. The no-confidence debate has been set for Feb 24-26 and the voting for Feb 27 before parliament goes into recess from Feb 29. Asked whether they think the censure debate would be useful, 40.47% were uncertain, 33.92% thought it would be useful, and 26.01% thought it would not be of any use because it is only a political game and the government would continue in power. Asked if the political situation would change after the debate, a majority -- 55.88% -- thought it would stay the same because the government, which commands a majority in the House of Representatives, would remain in power; 24.08% believed it would get worse as the government faces many problems; and 20.04% believed it would get better, reasoning that the debate would serve as a catalyst for the government to improve its work.
