By felicitating Major Leetul Gogoi, the Indian Army has sent out a message that it is willing to reward its officers on out-of-the-box thinking. It has recognised that this officer took a brave decision of saving the maximum number of lives, overriding other lesser-important concerns. Saving as many lives as possible was the top priority for Gogoi in unrest-hit Kashmir. When asked whether by the Army's honouring the officer, voices in the Valley had been further alienated and international laws on human rights violated, BJP spokesperson Aman Sinha said the bravery and valour shown by Major Gogoi saved 19 lives. Right to life or right to safety is a supreme right and any other right pales in relative comparison to it", Sinha added.
