Mais' bid to intervene in Jill Lawrence case dismissed - Nation


KUALA LUMPUR: The High Court has dismissed a religious council's bid to intervene in judicial review proceedings filed by Sarawakian clerk Jill Ireland Lawrence Bill challenging the the Home Minister's decision to seize eight CDs that contained the word "Allah". Speaking to reporters after the proceedings in chambers, Mais counsel Mohamed Haniff Khatri Abdulla said Justice Nor Bee held that it has no direct interest to intervene in the matter. Meanwhile, Bill's counsel Annou Xavier said that the judge held that Mais has no duty or owes no rights or liabilities to any non-Muslims in the state. On May 4, 2009 Bill obtained leave from the High Court to challenge the Home Minister's decision to seize eight CDs that contained the word "Allah". Bill had on Sept 10, 2015 obtained the CDs containing the word "Allah" which were seized from her nine years ago.
