Mainland tightens virus border controls for visitors from HK

China is requiring those arriving on the mainland from Hong Kong show a negative coronavirus test taken within the previous three days and undergo 14 days of supervised quarantine to enter, following a virus resurgence in the neighboring city. On Thursday night, Shenzhen and Zhuhai issued statements requiring people from Hong Kong to present valid negative coronavirus nucleic acid test results issued by a testing institution recognized by the Hong Kong government. Results will only be considered valid if they were issued within 72 hours of the sample collection date. Notable exceptions include students and truck drivers who must cross the border on a daily basis, along with “important business people” and others recognized under bilateral policies excluding them from quarantine demands, according to the official notice. The new requirement took effect from 10:00 a.m. on today.
