A high for blue chip transport company Mainfreight failed to shunt the New Zealand sharemarket into the black on Thursday. Spark lost 0.8 per cent to $4.62, Meridian Energy fell 1.3 per cent to $5.34, and Contact Energy lost 0.7 per cent to $7.64. Medicinal cannabis company Rua Bioscience jumped 36 per cent, or 18 cents, on its first day of trading, giving it a market capitalisation of $95.2 million. Rua Bioscience was the second medicinal cannabis company to list on the New Zealand stock exchange after raising $20 million in its initial public offering this week. The Dow Jones Industrial Average lost 0.4 per cent, and the tech-heavy Nasdaq composite gave up 0.3 per cent to 11,484.69.
