A 5.9 magnitude earthquake struck central Australia early on Saturday, according to the US Geological Survey (USGS). A 6.6 magnitude earthquake near Tennant Creek in the Northern Territory in 1988 was recently named the largest following a revision of magnitudes using new technology. Parts of central Australia are occasionally hit with minor earthquakes and Saturday morning's earthquake is not the largest to hit Australia. The earthquake was felt at Uluru, in the Northern Territory, and surrounding resorts, homes and businesses.
