Magnitude-4 quake hits 5km north-west of KaikōuraGEONET The quake struck at 8.47pm on Wednesday at a depth of 30km and 5km west of Kaikōura. A Magnitude-4 earthquake has struck inland, just five kilometres north-west of Kaikōura. The quake struck at 8.47pm at a depth of 35km. At the same time, a smaller, M2.2 quake struck 5km north of Turangi, near Lake Taupō, at a depth of 6km. By 9pm, 53 people had reported feeling the Kaikōura quake to Geonet.
