BIRMINGHAM, England – Olympic champion Maggie Mac Neil and Nicolas-Guy Turbide of Quebec City each won gold Saturday in two of the closest swimming races so far at the Commonwealth Games on. Mac Neil, from the High Performance Centre-Ontario/London, Ont., also anchored Canada’s 4×100-m women’s freestyle relay to bronze. Meanwhile the Canadian men’s 4×100 freestyle was also third in its final to make it a four-medal night. Ben Proud, the defending champion and world champion, grabbed England’s first gold in the pool winning in a Games record 22.81. Masse, a triple medallist at the world championships and the defending Games champion, clocked 58.83.
