However, a statement from the representative of the Irffan-starrer said that it grossed Rs 3.25 crore in India and Rs 1.2 crore overseas. Amidst big releases like Rajnikanth's Kabali and the Hollywood film Star Trek Beyond, Nishikant Kamat's Madaari starring Irrfan had a slow start at the box office grossing only Rs 4.45 crore worldwide on its first day, according to IANS reports. While Madaari is based around government corruption and the common man's response to it, the film also showcases the bond between a father and son. Madaari also stars Jimmy Sheirgill, Vishesh Bansal, Tushar Dalvi, Nitish Pandey and Ayesha Raza. Force and Drishyam director Nishikant Kamat teamed up with Irffan again after the award-winning Mumbai Meri Jaan (2008) which was critically acclaimed by the film fraternity.
