It is just moving away from shopping malls. The small-format stores, which are dubbed Market by Macy’s, will instead be opened in neighborhood shopping centers and strip malls. Macy’s will also expand the number of its Backstage locations. This year, it plans to open an additional 50 Backstage store-within-store locations and 7 freestanding Backstage stores located outside of shopping malls.
