Mackenzie district has another big year aheadSUPPLIED Mackenzie District mayor Graham Smith said there were other areas of funding that the council would look to apply for from central government, such as roading and parking upgrades. A new look church, funding initiatives from the government and a new chief executive are some the major things happening in the Mackenzie District in 2018. While 2017 was a busy year in the district for tourism funding, 2018 is looking to be similar with more plans to fund dense tourist areas in the district. The Mackenzie District Council was granted $294,000 from the Ministry of Business, Innovation and Employment (MBIE) Tourism Infrastructure Fund, in December for the construction of a new carpark and walkways to redirect vehicle and pedestrian access around the church. The $294,000 fillip means the district has received more than $1.3 million in tourism funding from the government in the past 12 months.
