According to an MTC official, there is a plan to float tenders to buy battery-operated electric buses. "Battery-operated electric buses will bring in the desired change. The cost of an electric bus is around ₹2.5 crore, while that of a bus running on a fossil fuel is about ₹80 lakh. Electric buses will do well in a metro on a few counts.
