Allegation after allegation of misconduct within parliament have dominated the headlines, as varied in their content as they are a depressing insight into the health of Westminster. Despite how naming names sells papers, this should not be a witch hunt. Trophy-hunting for the resignations of cabinet big beasts is not what the focus should be upon, at least not for the many staff who still need a functioning framework within parliament. The Members and Peers’ Staff Association have been clear for years that an independent reporting system, proper training and a functioning HR framework needs to exist. Parliament needs to listen and act as dysfunctional staff relationships flourish when MPs do not know how to be employers.
