A snake found on a construction site in Papakura was taken taken by Ministry of Primary Industries for further investigation. The snake has been formally identified as a non-venomous juvenile male carpet python with no risk of reproduction. He said the pattern is strongly suggestive of a young coastal carpet python from Queensland or northern New South Wales.
