An inmate of the Manila City Jail died shortly after being rushed to the Jose Reyes Memorial Medical Center in Sta. Initial information from the Manila Police District (MPD) identified the victim as Ramon Guevarra, 58, from Tondo Manila. Manila City Jail’s Medical Infirmary said the victim was seen gasping for breath before losing consciousness. According to the MPD, Guevarra was transferred to the Manila City Jail in August 2016 while his case for violation of R.A. 9165 or the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002 is being heard by the Manila Regional Trial Court Branch 13. Investigators have classified Guevarra’s death as “death under inquiry” until the autopsy is finished.
