GEORGE TOWN: The state government has no interest in taking over the Chinese New Year Culture and Heritage Celebration for next year, said Tanjong MP Ng Wei Aik. For us, it’s very clear the event belongs to the Penang Chinese Clan Council. Ng explained that the state was accused of hijacking the event once when it took over the organising of the celebration in 2016. “I believe the Federal Government can give more allocations than us (the state),” he said. It was reported that the Penang Chinese Clan Council announced the cancellation of the Chinese New Year Culture and Heritage Celebration 2018 due to a lack of cooperation and support from the Penang government.
