He said Article 119 (4) of the Federal Constitution and the Elec­tion Regulations (Voter Regulation) 2002 would need to be tabled in Parliament first without debates. “All the laws that touch on automatic registration must be amended,” he told reporters. The government is expected to table a Bill to amend the Federal Constitution in a bid to lower the voting age. Azhar said that similar to lowering the voting age to 18 years old, automatic registration was a structural matter. “If there are laws to allow 18-year-olds to vote and automatic registration, we will do it,” he added.
