ISKANDAR PUTERI: The Malaysian Maritime Enforcement Agency’s (MMEA) personnel are going undercover by disguising themselves as fishermen. This is to resolve problems arising from local fishermen being nabbed by neighbouring countries' enforcement authorities, while they are fishing in Malaysian waters, especially near Pulau Pisang. MMEA director, Datuk Abu Bakar Idris said they had to employ the approach after four fishermen were arrested last year and two earlier this year. "We need to monitor using local fishing boats because if we utilise the Maritime Malaysia boats, they will run away," he said. Abu Bakar said that by going undercover, it was also to find out whether the fishermen were hounded by neighbouring countries' enforcement personnel or other individuals.
