MLHU says personal data found, not accessed, on computers left behind at old location

The Middlesex-London Health Unit (MLHU) says a privacy breach investigation has revealed two of 80 hard drives left behind at its old office contained personal information (PI) or personal health information (PHI). The health unit carried out the probe itself, after electronic devices were found in the spring in the building's lower level vault by Middlesex County employees — the space's new tenants. There were also paper documents left behind, which included the information of 270 people associated with a food poisoning investigation, a fax request for medical records and a fax immunization report for a child, said the MLHU. MLHU blames COVID-19 pandemic for 'oversight'The MLHU said the equipment and documents were left behind inadvertently amid the move from its old office on 50 King Street to its new location inside Citi Plaza. "Staff redeployments to address the emerging challenges of the COVID-19 pandemic led to the oversight that resulted in these resources being left behind," the statement said.
