MGM Will Pay Las Vegas Massacre Victims Up To $800 Million

ASSOCIATED PRESS(Updated: 2:37 p.m. EST, 10/3/2019)Topline: MGM Resorts International will pay up to $800 million in a settlement with victims of the 2017 Las Vegas massacre. A lawyer for one of the victims said the settlement will range from $735 million to $800 million and will settle “substantially all” lawsuits filed against the hotel chain. At first MGM tried to get out of paying money to victims under a federal law passed after 9/11 known as the Safety Act. MGM then countersued 1,000 people who had filed lawsuits against it, drawing intense criticism. In the aftermath, victims filed lawsuits alleging that MGM was negligent in allowing Paddock to stockpile firearms and hundreds of rounds of ammunition in one of its hotel rooms.
