Pay TV revenues in the Middle East and North Africa (MENA) region are set for a steep decline in the coming years. According to Digital TV Research, pay TV revenues for 20 countries in MENA will fall by 38% between peak year 2016 ($3.84 billion) and 2027 ($2.39 billion). The country’s pay TV revenues however will still drop to US$722 million, with operators cutting subscription prices in order to curb cord-cutting. Simon Murray, principal analyst at Digital TV Research, said: “Pay TV has never had an easy ride in the MENA region. Traditional pay TV subscribers are now converting to SVOD platforms.”
