Out of Ethiopia’s 45,000MW hydroelectric potential, two-thirds is in the Nile Basin, which makes the construction of the GERD a necessity. The pre-feasibility study was conducted by the Eastern Nile Technical Regional Office, in which Egypt and Ethiopia took part. But, accommodating Egypt, Ethiopia made the filling stage-based, which would take four to seven years.
