Mombasa MCAs are trying to shed the 'rubber stamp' tag and take the executive head-on in their oversight role. Politician Mariam Antonette set a precedent when she clashed verbally with assembly Transport committee chairperson Priscillah Mumba outside the assembly chambers on Tuesday afternoon. Mumba, the Shimanzi/Ganjoni MCA, defended beleaguered Transport executive Tawfiq Balala, the subject of their clash. Since the inception of the assembly in 2013 MCAs have been docile, never openly defying Governor Hassan Joho, they barely defied him openly. But the MCAs now say the electorate is becoming hostile to them because of the executives' 'incompetence'.
