“It has nothing to do with us and I am not aware of it,” MCA president Datuk Seri Liow Tiong Lai told reporters after launching the Federal Territories MCA annual convention yesterday. MCA, he said, would be monitoring developments, adding that it was still too early to tell the direction that Umno was taking. Liow was commenting on Umno president Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi’s statement that all Umno MPs had signed statutory declarations empowering him to negotiate with parties outside of Barisan. After the May 9 polls, only Umno, MCA and MIC are members of Barisan. However, Vigneswaran said Dr Ahmad Zahid must discuss the matter with MIC and MCA under Barisan for a collective decision.
