GEORGE TOWN: The Penang Island City Council (MBPP) is planning to take legal action against those responsible for damaging the overhead pedestrian bridge near the Pengkalan Raja Uda ferry terminal in Weld Quay, says an exco member. "From the information that I received, a police report has been lodged by the owner of the overhead pedestrian, namely the MBPP. He also said that the MBPP is planning to file a negligence suit against those responsible. On Wednesday (Feb 5), a piling crane travelling from Padang Kota Lama towards Weld Quay crashed into the iconic landmark, prompting the MBPP to cordon off the surrounding area. The structure, which was built in the 1970s, was the first overhead pedestrian bridge in Penang.
