As of Saturday, around 21 million people in France – including those living in the Paris region – are under ‘lockdown light’ in an attempt to control spiralling case numbers and relieve the pressure on hospitals. While the new lockdown is considerably more relaxed than those in the spring an autumn, non-essential shops are closed and socialising and travel are banned. However there are several areas that are approaching the same conditions as the 16 under lockdown, so risk being placed under extra restrictions. There are therefore 15 départements that risk extra restrictions under this rating, all have passed the threshold of 250 cases per 100,000 people and many are reporting severe pressure on hospitals. However, being on the ‘at risk’ list does not necessarily mean a département will be placed under extra restrictions.
