PETALING JAYA: Seven people have been rounded up in two states as the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) launched a crackdown on illegal logging. All the seven suspects, aged between 32 and 62, were arrested in several locations between 10.30am and 3.30pm on Monday. On Monday, The Star front-paged a report that the MACC was gathering evidence on illegal logging and would be making arrest against the culprits for ravaging the environment for personal gains. Some enforcement officers tasked with taking action against illegal loggers are believed to have turned a blind eye and worked in cahoots with illegal loggers. It is learnt that these unethical officers are raking in tens of thousand of ringgit every month as kickback and side income to finance their lavish lifestyle.
