PUTRAJAYA: The Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) has arrested another suspect in the Malaysian Islamic Economic Development Foundation (Yapeim) embezzlement case. The former deputy president of the government-linked foundation was arrested after she arrived at the MACC headquarters for questioning at 1pm Thursday. The 69-year-old is also the mother of the 47-year-old senior director who has been under MACC remand since Wednesday over the same case. MACC director of investigations Datuk Simi Abdul Ghani confirmed the arrest and said the woman is being investigated under Section 409 of the Penal Code for criminal breach of trust. According to an MACC source, both mother and son allegedly conspired to embezzle funds from Yapeim amounting to RM223,000.
