M-Pesa, Africa’s largest mobile money platform, is set for a technological leap after entering a strategic partnership with the ADI Foundation to roll out blockchain-powered transactions across its vast customer network. Sitoyo Lopokoiyit, CEO of M-Pesa Africa, a joint venture between Safaricom and Vodacom, noted that the partnership has transformative potential. “We are excited to partner with ADI Foundation to tap into their expertise around new technologies and how these can transform financial services,” Lopokpiyit said. This collaboration represents the most significant African partnership to date for the ADI Foundation and a major strategic evolution for M-Pesa. M-Pesa has recorded double-digit growth since its launch in 2007 and now accounts for 42% of Safaricom’s net profit.
