Māori Party pushes to change Parliamentary oath of allegiance to Queen

The Māori Party is pushing for the pledge every MP has to make to the Queen to be changed to acknowledge the Treaty of Waitangi. ROBERT KITCHIN/Stuff Māori Party co-leader Rawiri Waititi issues a challenge ahead of his swearing in. Former Māori Party and then Mana MP Hone Harawira was kicked out of the House for swearing an oath to the Treaty in 2011, before eventually swearing allegiance to the Queen. The Māori Party then put up a bill to change the oath, but it was not successful. Green Party co-leader Marama Davidson said she would be open to changing the oath too.
