Australian honey manufacturers are challenging the United Kingdom's decision to award a trademark for "mānuka honey" to only New Zealand producers. The Australian Mānuka Honey Association (AMHA), a group of Australia's largest mānuka honey manufactures was founded in October this year, prompted by the trademark case. Supplied Mānuka nurseries like this one can apply for federal funding in Australia to import New Zealand mānuka and grow it there. The New Zealand industry member body, UMFHA, has already spent $350,000 to get mānuka honey trade marked in the UK.
