Lupita Nyong’o has a new superhero project in the works which she will be the executive producer. An award-winning actress, Nyong’o has teamed up with tech startup Kukua for Super Sema, to launch an African superhero kid series. Super Sema follows Sema (voiced by Stycie Waweru), a young African girl who uses her science-based super-powers to protect her home — the “neo-Africa-futuristic community of Dunia”, from a dangerous robotic villain. The animated series was written by Claudia Lloyd (Charlie & Lola, Mr. Bean, Tinga Tinga Tales) and directed by Lynne Southerland (Mulan II, Cinderella and the Secret Prince), the first African-American woman to helm a Disney project. This comes just days after Nyong’o announced that her kid’s book ‘Sulwe’ is going to be an animated Netflix movie.
