Ricki Anthony Joseph McQueen, 31, pleaded guilty to wounding with intent to injure in relation to a brawl in Ashburton when he appeared in the District Court in Timaru. A man stabbed in both lungs was a “whisker away” from being killed, a judge has told his attacker. The victim refused, so McQueen stepped in and ordered him to go before punching him in the face. “The defendant was armed with a knife,” McDonald said. Judge Large convicted McQueen and remanded him on bail until sentencing on May 13.
