Lumut factory ordered to suspend operations after fatal accident - Nation

LUMUT (Bernama): An oil and gas company in Kampung Acheh here has been ordered to suspend operations after a worker was killed in an accident at its premises. The Perak Department of Occupational Safety and Health (DOSH) also issued two notices under the Occupational Safety and Health Act 1994, in connection with the company’s failure to observe work safety procedures in reference to manual lifting works, as well as its failure to undertake a risk assessment of such operations. The 29-year-old male employee died of head injuries when he was crushed by metal weighing one tonne, while undertaking assembling works of parts for an oil rig at 3.57pm Wednesday (July 3). Department director Zamzurin Maarof said the stop-work order was to facilitate investigations. Speaking to reporters after visiting the site of the accident Thursday (July 4), he said legal action would be taken against the company if investigations showed that it had breached the law.
