BERLIN—Deutsche Lufthansa AG’s integration this year of rival Air Berlin PLC planes into its own budget carrier signal the airline could successfully incorporate further takeovers in any future consolidation in Europe, a senior Lufthansa executive said Wednesday. Karl Ulrich Garnadt, chief executive of Lufthansa’s Eurowings budget unit, said the carrier had integrated the first 11 of 33 rented Air Berlin planes. Adding the Air Berlin aircraft will boost passenger numbers by around 3 million passengers this year.
