Lt Governor Kiran Bedi can’t interfere with Puducherry govt: Madras HC

The Madras High Court on Tuesday said Puducherry’s Lt Governor Kiran Bedi cannot interfere with the daily functioning of the government in the Union territory. Kiran Bedi has been engaged in a feud with Puducherry chief Minister V Narayanasamy since she assumed office in May 2016. A former French enclave, Puducherry had witnessed unprecedented protest in February this year with CM Narayanasamy launching an indefinite dharna against alleged interference by Lt Governor Kiran Bedi. Narayanasamy had also led an agitation in front of Parliament in Delhi, pushing for the demand that the Centre sanction statehood for Puducherry and to replace Kiran Bedi as Lt Governor. In December last year, the Supreme Court upheld the decision of Puducherry LG Kiran Bedi to nominate three MLAs to the Assembly.
