Searchers had found wreckage off South Stradbroke Island about 5.30pm, prompting grave fears for the wellbeing of the pilot and his 31-year-old female passenger. SUPPLIED Helicopters, boats and jet skis scour the water off Stradbroke Island after several pieces of debris were found. Senior Sergeant Jay Notaro said the several pieces of debris found in the water were "consistent with the missing plane" - a privately owned Soviet-era Yak-52. "It is quite a large search area, which actually spans the whole of South Stradbroke Island and to up North Stradbroke as well. Aitkenhead said flying conditions were perfect on Wednesday and the plane was spotted flying above South Stradbroke Island about half an hour after take-off.
