With the recent death of Emmy Award-winning actress Mary Tyler Moore at 80, the twin city has lost its second iconic figure within a year. You can bet “Purple Rain” and “Love is All Around” (The Mary Tyler Moore Show theme song) are playing on a loop in this city—if not around the world, still. Moore used three names, Prince used one. Granted, Moore wasn’t a native Minnesotan but her Mary Tyler Moore Show (and fictional character Mary Richards) was based there. Prince reigned over the city; in fact, he practically owned it (just as he did with the color purple)—and royal Prince fans are still pilgrimaging to his Paisley Park home/music studio.
