Musk poured millions of dollars into Trump’s successful election campaign, and has been a vocal and visible supporter of the president-elect. The idea is that within a federal budget of over USD 6 trillion, there are opportunities to make some big savings. And Musk is not the first American business leader to offer private sector expertise to the world of politics. Concerns have also been raised about potential conflicts of interest, as Musk’s business empire benefits from government contracts. Besides, two of Musk’s companies (SpaceX and Tesla) have been awarded USD 15.4 billion in federal contracts in the last decade.
