Tricky CluesThere was some good misdirection in this puzzle — I had “At once” for PRONTO and “Zilch” for ZIPPO, and you might have had others. There were also some cute pairings that I thought particularly apropos for this theme, including TOOTSIES and ONESIES, and BOOYAH and SEEYA. It’s a game I hadn’t heard of, but with two ugly letter juxtapositions, it had to be NBA JAM. Too useful a word to be a debut, I guess, and one we’ll have to keep an eye out for. 41A: I just never think of the South Pole as “Southern,” but a colonist there would certainly be a PENGUIN.
