"Love" At First Sight Is Actually Simply Lust At First Sight

Romantic love at first sight (LAFS) is a well-known phenomenon: It has been portrayed in arts and literature for at least 3,000 years, and in Western countries today, approximately every third person reports having experienced it at least once. There is no one single definition of love, but probably the best and most commonly used conceptualization is Robert Sternberg’s triangular theory of love. “Consummate love,” the love that has all three components, is the ideal type of romantic love that we all strive for. The intimacy and commitment components both take time to develop, and as such are unlikely to be present at first sight. So could LAFS be the kind of love that is high on passion, but low on intimacy and commitment?
