Louisiana Teachers Could Be Allowed To Carry Guns At SchoolA new bill in Louisiana, as amended, could allow school districts to appoint volunteer “school protection officers” to carry concealed weapons on campus, as a response to the recent mass shootings in Uvalde, Texas that claimed the lives of 19 elementary school students and two teachers. The “protection officer” would have to take a training course and obtain a permit with police. The Louisiana Federation of Teachers is against the proposed bill, calling it an added burden. The most recent at the time of writing was June 1 in Tulsa, Oklahoma in which five people were killed including a doctor who treated the gunman.
